Library Computers

How do I reserve a library computer?

You may go to any available computer and enter your library card number to start a session. If all of the computers are in use, go to the Reservation Station (at the front of the public computer area), click Reserve a Computer, click Next Available PC, and click Accept Reservation. A receipt will print out with instructions about when your session starts and which computer to use.

How long can I use the library computers?

You can sign in to the library computers with your library card up to three times a day. Each session is for 30 minutes and can be extended for an extra 15 minutes 5 times if there are no reservations on your computer.

How do I print from the library computers?

Print normally (Google Chrome or Firefox: click menu icon on top right->Print, Internet Explorer: click File -> Print). Black and White Printer 0.15 Cents is selected automatically. If you would like to print in color, change the printer to Color Printer 0.35 Cents. After you select your printer, click Print. A popup will tell you the cost and how many pages will be printed out. Click OK.

Release your print job from the Reservation/Print Release Station (at the front of the public computer area). Click Release a Print Job, enter your library card number, and click Submit. Your print job should automatically be selected. Click Print on the top left. Enter you money into the vending machine next to the station and click Pay From Vending Device. Your job will print out of the printer next to the station. If you are printing from your own device at the library or would like to pickup a print job from the library, check out the library’s mobile printing service.

Do the library computers have Microsoft Office?

Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint are installed.

Do you have Windows or Macs?

The public library computers run Windows. Macs are available for teens in the Teen Center at the Richard E. Halperin Memorial Library Building and there is a Mac available for adults at the West Harrison Branch. To print from a Mac you will need to use the library’s mobile printing service.

Can I use my own computer/device at the library?

Both library buildings offer free wireless Internet. The network names are Harrison Public Library and West Harrison Branch. There is no password, however you will be prompted to agree to terms and conditions before connecting to the Internet. If you are not automatically prompted, open the Internet browser on your personal device and try to visit any website to reach the agreement page.

There are seating areas and tables by the windows and study carrels in the back of the library where you can use/charge your personal devices.
