February’s recommendations focus on heart health and matters of the heart. The human experience of love and the language of the heart are universal. Yet, why does February, the shortest month of the year, honor the heart? In 1964 President Lyndon B. Johnson, among the millions of people in the country who had experienced a heart attack, issued the first proclamation. Ever since, the Presidents of the United States have declared February Heart Health Month.
