With unemployment still high in the United States, the prospects for people looking for employment is discouraging. The Harrison Public Library is not an employment center but it does have the Job Information Center which is located between the Young Adult Fiction area and part of the Adult Biography area. The Job Information Center consists mostly of books but it also has some dvds along civil service job flyers.

These are examples of the many books and DVDs to be found in the Job Information Center:

The Occupational Outlook HandbookThis book is published yearly by the United States Department of Labor. While the title is self-explanatory; each edition projects the job outlook in the United States for the next ten years.

What Color is Your ParachuteThis book is considered a classic for job seekers and it has been published with updates for over forty years.

300 Best Jobs Without a Four-Year DegreeThe job market is changing in the United States and some of the fastest growing jobs do not require college degrees but rather a technical background. This book lists these jobs along with other jobs that do not require a college degree.

Careers in AccountingThis book gives up-to-date information for Accounting job seekers at all levels. The Job Information Center has many books on many different careers.

Culinary Careers for DummiesAnother example of the books found in The Job Information Center. It teaches one “ how to land a dream job in the culinary field along with the ins and outs of culinary training, degrees and certificates.

Barron’s Firefighter ExamsAn example of the many civil service examination books to be found in The Job Information Center.

The Everything Resume BookHelps one “create a winning resume that stands out from the crowd.”

Job Search in the 21st CenturyA dvd which lists “the most effective ways of finding employment in the 21st century.”

Powerful ResumesIt’s impossible to underestimate the value of a good resume and this DVD helps one develop a “powerful resume” while applying for a job.
