Objectives

  • Foster understanding of and access to digital learning through existing and emerging technologies.
  • Adapt and grow physical and digital environments that encourage a learning culture while preserving traditional study and reading spaces.
  • Expand and support digital content that enhances literacy and skill development through technology training and educational programming.
  • Promote technology access and literacy for underserved populations.
  • Implement technologies that enhance and improve library services and operational efficiency.

Dynamic Literacy

Promote literacy in all its forms, highlighting the many avenues to access traditional and digital resources, all supported by knowledgeable Library staff

Objectives

  • Expand access to physical and digital collections, third-party resources, Westchester Library System offerings, and digital tools tailored to Harrison's unique needs.
  • Invest in resources that support literacy, in both traditional and contemporary topics, while fostering critical thinking and the skills for information evaluation.
  • Offer self-paced learning opportunities to empower lifelong learning and skill development.
  • Strengthen universal access and services for patrons, including underserved groups, newcomers and older adults.
  • Enhance programs for pre-teens and teens, while evaluating emerging needs and providing responsive services.
  • Continue to invest in and support staff training programs.

Connecting Community

Foster a connected and welcoming community through innovative programs, meaningful partnerships and friendly spaces that address the dynamic and diverse needs of our residents

  • Strengthen the Library as an invaluable gathering place and cornerstone of cultural, educational and civic life.
  • Enhance access to and usability of Library spaces while exploring opportunities to expand the Library footprint.
  • Represent sustainability in our community through educational, environmental, social, and economic leadership.
  • Expand the Library's community programs and partnerships.
  • Provide opportunities for community leaders to become champions of the Library's mission and importance.

Maintain financial sustainability through strategic oversight, effective governance, and meaningful partnerships

  • Ensure that financial operating models and policies support the Library's long-term stability and ability to meet our growing community's needs.
  • Continue to pursue grants to invest in Library services and infrastructure.
  • Explore innovative revenue opportunities to diversify and increase Library funding.
  • Help raise awareness of the Harrison Public Library Foundation's role in supplementally supporting the Library.

Revitalization and Growth

Refresh and adaptively revitalize the Library's facilities as a modern, welcoming place for a growing and diverse Harrison community

Objectives

  • Upgrade and enhance the Library's facilities to meet the future needs of our growing community while ensuring resilience and sustainability.
  • Incorporate a feasibility study in the Library's plans to expand its capacity and increase adaptability to meet its projected population growth.
  • Enhance technological capabilities, improve universal access and transform spaces for Community use.
  • In response to the space audit, reconfigure existing spaces to improve sightlines, add study/work pods, update the Children's Center and complete the West Harrison Branch "Library Without Walls" project to support versatile community engagement.
