HPL Receives $36,587 Grant for Innovative Reading Garden Construction Project

The Harrison Public Library will receive $36,587 in state funding through the NYS Construction Grant for the construction of an innovative reading garden adjacent to the Richard E. Halperin Memorial Library Building to be used for public events and artistic activities.

This project will cement the Library’s ability to act as the center of the community by providing a new art garden that will include fencing for public art/murals, portable outdoor furniture, and space for art displays. It will also have an imagination playground, dance steps, a natural stage for performances, and creative light outdoor lighting fixtures.

The project will also provide different forms of engagement for children, including designing, planting, and maintaining bed gardens; harvesting, preparing, and sharing food; working cooperatively in groups; learning about science and nutrition, and creating art and stories inspired by gardens. The construction is planned for 2019.
