Highlights include: Dedication of the new library building on Bruce Avenue; Merger of the Harrison Public Library and Silver Lake Free Library in 1967; Growth of library collections and increased service hours; Growth of library programming on issues relevant to the time including youth problems, women’s issues, and economic issues; Meetings regarding the formation of a Friends of the Library group; The Harrison Chapter of UNICO’s contribution of funds to establish the Italian culture section in the library beginning in 1962; Harrison Garden Club’s contributions to the beautification of the library, both inside and outside; Addition of the Docustat machine for public use. Notable people include: Edith DiPace, Library Board President, William H. Van Braam, Library Director, Mrs. Florence C. Monaghan, the first children’s librarian, and Buster Crabbe.
