Greetings from Harrison: a Postcard Collection by Justine Savage
Description
An account of the resource
Harrison resident Justine Savage came across some old Harrison postcards online and started a collection. Justine was born in Harrison and attended Harrison schools. Her father, Leonard Savage, a veteran of WWI, moved to Harrison with his two siblings at a very young age when his mother was widowed and came to Harrison seeking employment.<br /><br />"Harrison was a typical small town when I was growing up and I loved it. After a major snow storm, the town would close down streets with hills and all the kids would sleigh ride. The library, as I'm sure you know, was in the Aranac building right under the basketball court. And yet, we all went there and don't think we even noticed the noise. Of course, the big Rye-Harrison rivalry was big doings back then."<br /><br />Justine's father and two brothers are memorialized on the World War I and Korean War memorials in Riis Park.
