Description

In her application for a widow’s pension, Sarah Jane Tierce wrote a letter to the U.S. Pension Office concerning the death of her husband, Simeon A. [Anderson] Tierce on July 7, 1864. This letter also demonstrates Sarah Jane’s literacy, especially her good handwriting and composition.
