Shine a Light

Sadness reverberates across the country when famous people die from drug overdoses. Depending on your age, you will remember the untimely deaths of many talented musicians and actors: Prince, Whitney Houston, Corey Monteith, Michael Jackson, River Phoenix, John Belushi, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, Billie Holiday, and many more.

These deaths make national news.  Others only strike the hearts of the families and hometowns. Recently Harrison has been hit, bringing drug abuse into focus in our community.

According to Harrison Police Chief Anthony Marraccini:

“The battle against heroin is on Harrison’s doorstep, everyone’s help is needed to combat the drug’s deadly grasp.” (June 30, Lohud).

Perhaps the only positive thing that comes from tragedies like these is that we shine a light on the dangers of drugs and seek to help those who need it. Here are a few excellent resources and books in the Westchester Library System that have information you may need to know:
